I get accused of that a lot. I haven't checked to verify this, but I would bet that everything I've submitted as a deviation in the last year has received at least one comment to that effect.
Depending on the day, I find the accusation either highly offensive,
or just kind of amusing in its complete stupidity and total lack of
perception.
If I did lots of feeding porn, or inflation art, then okay, that would
be a valid criticism. But I don't. All I do - all I have EVER done -
is present well done art with a fat subject. I have many reasons for
doing that, which I've elaborated on repeatedly in journals and deviation descriptions. But ultimately my reasons don't really matter. Once the art is out there, what matters is what happens when people see it and react to it. What the art means becomes a nuanced and changing thing depending on who is thinking about it.
Nonetheless, the accusation comes up regularly enough that I finally feel like I need to respond to it.
I do not glorify obesity. I celebrate humanity, and femininity (in
whatever shape it comes in), and I rejoice when I see people laying down prejudice and treating other human beings with basic decency and respect.
My project isn't about health. I think people's health is their business, and I'm not in the habit of prying into those of complete strangers. Additionally, I've known enough healthy, vigorous fat people to know that you can't judge by size alone. Even if you could, though, I wouldn't care. Health is not a moral issue to me. (See last journal for more thoughts on that.) No one castigates thin people who eat poorly and never exercise, though we all know that those things can lead to all sorts of health problems regardless of size. Why? Because no one actually cares about health. It's about conformity.
And I don't. And millions of people like me don't. And refusing to be treated like a second class citizen isn't glorifying anything. It is called self-respect.
You should try it sometime.
